GOP Rep. Tom MacArthur, Who Helped Save the House Obamacare Repeal Bill, Loses Seat
ANOTHER ONE
Republican Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), who played an instrumental role in reviving the House’s Affordable Care Act repeal bill in 2017, was defeated on Wednesday. The Associated Press called the race for Democratic candidate Andy Kim, a previous national-security aide to former President Barack Obama. MacArthur represented New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district, which voted for President Trump by a six-point margin. Republicans will now hold just one of 12 New Jersey seats in the next Congress. There were signs that MacArthur would have issues getting re-elected at a heated town hall in his district last May where he took a five-hour beating from constituents for drafting an amendment that helped pass the American Health Care Act.
