When the American Conservatives Union announced Wednesday that GOProud, the Republican gay group, would attend CPAC as guests, it seemed like a progressive step after years of snubs. However, GOProud co-founder Chris Barron has quit the organization, saying it was an “unconditional surrender” to attend CPAC—but not be allowed to be given sponsorship or a booth under the terms of the invitation. “It’s beyond disingenuous for GOProud leadership to say this is some sort of compromise or a step forward,” Barron said. “It’s a kin to the Germans saying the Treaty of Versailles was a compromise.”
