Grateful Dead fans set an attendance record at Soldier Field on Sunday night, as 70,844 Deadheads obliterated a record set by U2 in 2009. The band played a three-night closeout show over Independence Day weekend in Chicago, which they said would be their last as a group. The group first beat U2’s record with 70,764 fans on Friday—up from 67,936 at the 2009 show. An extra 150,000 fans purchased online streaming passes to be part of the experience.
