The cash-strapped Greek government issued an order to repay a €450 million part of the country’s €240 billion debt to the EU on Thursday. “The order [for the repayment] has been given,” a finance ministry official told the AP, adding that payment will be made shortly. The move comes after months of maneuvering on the issue, including Athens officials’ claims that it is not Greece that owes money but rather Germany—in the form of reparations for occupation during World War II.
