Greece finally submitted a detailed written proposal for a bailout plan on Thursday, requesting a 53.5 billion euro loan from the eurozone’s bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism, or ESM. In exchange, the country agreed to demands from creditors to hike up sales taxes and cut state spending on pensions. European Union leaders will meet Sunday for an emergency summit.
