As secretary of state, “Clinton has been flamboyantly parading around for a while now as the planet’s leading protector of Internet freedom”—specifically calling for greater protections for dissidents and bloggers. And yet, what did the U.S. government do in response to the various Wikileaks revelations? It launched an “unprecedented” criminal investigation into the online organization and threatened international-relations students not to read or share the leaked cables if they ever wanted to work in government.
