This is rather impressive: Angel Alvarez was shot 21 times by police after killing a man in Harlem. He lived. Experts say the 23-year-old likely broke the record for surviving the most gunshot wounds in a single encounter. (Doctors say they pulled out 21 slugs, but Alvarez’s lawyer says it was 23.) Alvarez’s sister says he was shot in the arms, legs, abdomen and jaw but is able to talk. The bullets missed his vital organs and major arteries, and now he must just fight infection. Alvarez shot Luis Soto before the shootout with police.
