Gunmen disguised in military uniforms flagged down a series of commuter buses and opened fire on 18 Shiite passengers in a northern province of Pakistan, officials said Tuesday. The attackers boarded the four buses and checked passengers’ identities before gunning down the Shiites on board. The Pakistani Taliban, a Sunni Muslim group, claimed responsibility for the massacre. Shiites, a minority sect in Pakistan, have been the victim of several recent attacks by Sunni extremists.
