The estimated death toll reported by the AP in a stampede in Mecca during the hajj three months ago is now at a staggering 2,411. The reported number is based on state news reports and official remarks from the dozens of countries from which pilgrims traveled. If the number is confirmed, it would be the deadliest stampede that’s ever happened at a hajj. Saudi Arabia has only reported that 769 pilgrims have died in the calamitous stampede.
