Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween claimed the top spot in theaters this weekend, with an estimated $21.6 million debut. The PG-13 comedy follows Perry’s well-known character Madea as she tries to protect her grand-niece at a haunted campground. Other new openers trailed far behind, with Warner Bros.’ disaster thriller Geostorm pulling in $13.3 million to take second place. The Snowman, a thriller starring Michael Fassbender, failed to make it into the top three in its first weekend, earning just $3.4 million to come in eighth place. Third place was claimed by a holdover from last week, the horror flick Happy Death Day. The film, about a woman who must relive the day of her murder until she figures out the identity of her killer, brought in $9.4 million in its second week.
