Hamas Leader to Sign Deal With Abbas

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal is in Cairo for talks about the Egyptian-sponsored unity deal between Hamas and Fatah, one of the largest Palestinian political parties. Mashaal and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are set to sign the reconciliation agreement on Wednesday. Despite the agreement to form a Palestinian unity government, Hamas has continued to reiterate its refusal to recognize Israel’s right to exist. Mashaal’s deputy, Musa Abu Marzouk, said on Sunday, “We won’t recognize the Zionist entity. Our rights are still usurped and it’s illogical for us to recognize the Zionist entity because that would be at the expense of our stolen lands and our people in the refugee camps.”
