Hamas has a chance now to prove its critics wrong: The militant Palestinian group will attempt to enforce border security in the Gaza Strip in order to prevent attacks on Israel. Hamas has mostly observed a cease-fire with Israel since the 2008-2009 war, but smaller militant groups have continued to attack the Jewish state. Hamas fears a military reprisal from Israel, which has said it holds Hamas responsible for all attacks from Gaza.
