“Hammerin’ Harmon” Killebrew, a slugger famous for starring for the Minnesota Twins, has died at 74 after a fight with esophageal cancer. Killebrew was one of the most powerful hitters in baseball history, knocking out 547 homers over 22 seasons, and he is tied for second only to Babe Ruth with eight seasons of 40 or more home runs. The first and third baseman and left fielder played from 1954 to 1975, starting his career with the Washington Senators, who then moved to Minnesota. He finished his career with the Kansas City Royals. A 13-time All-Star, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.
