Harry Potter Conjures Up $125M

The first half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows scraped up more money than any other installment of the series so far, bringing in $125.2 million over the weekend, a whopping 23 percent more than the previous biggest opening weekend for the franchise. The large haul was partly due to higher ticket prices, but it was also the result of the large number of viewers who came out for the midnight showing, a reflection of the Potter films’ older demographic. The only other film opening this weekend was Russell Crowe’s thriller The Next Three Days, which posted a paltry $6.75 million.
