As if annihilating Yale 45-7 in Saturday’s football game weren’t enough for Harvard, the school has hurt its rival in another category: early applications. In its first year of having early applications—which permit a student to file for admission early for one private college—since 2007, Harvard received 4,245 applications. That’s double the expected freshman class and nearly 6 percent higher than its 2007 number. Meanwhile, Yale received only 4,310 early applications, an 18 percent decrease from the year before.
