Harvard University’s head diving coach, Chris Heaton, resigned days after the school put him on leave following allegations that he “solicited nude pictures from and sent photos of his penis to young female athletes years ago,” The Harvard Crimson reports. “Today I share the news that Mr. Heaton has communicated to Harvard that he has decided to step down from his role,” Athletics Director Robert L. Scalise wrote in an email Tuesday. “In his place, Tracey Bird will step in as our interim diving coach, effective immediately.” The university also said it would begin a “national search” for a permanent replacement. Heaton was hired by the university in August 2018 and put on leave about two months later, when allegations surfaced from a class-action lawsuit. The suit, filed in late September in United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, accuses Heaton of sexual misconduct while teaching at an Indiana diving academy called Ripfest. Harvard denied knowing about the allegations before hiring Heaton. Heaton reportedly could not be reached for comment.
