Have a Pet and Have Nice Things — Yes, You Can Have Both

      Furry Foes

Because you shouldn’t have to sacrifice a nice home for the love of a furry friend.

If your preference for a home full of upholstered furniture that isn’t shredded to bits and coated in a fine film of saliva and hair  is keeping you from getting a pet (or your pet’s preventing you from upgrading from the shame-stained IKEA couch you’ve had since college), it may be time to join the legions of Amazon reviewers who swear by the following products. They’ll keep your home fuzz-free and sweet-smelling, so you can have a pet and sit on a relatively hair-free couch, too.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld Vacuum, $29.49 on Amazon Prime

If you look like a reject from the furry convention every time you stand up from your sofa, this “pet hair eraser” is your jam. Amazon reviewers agree it’s unparalleled at removing cat and dog hair from upholstery. If you have room for four cats and a golden retriever, you’ve got room for this.

Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator, $19.97 on Amazon Prime

Puppies pee. While you may be so blinded by love you hardly notice that faint aroma of urine pervading your home, guests aren’t so forgiving. This extra-strength, enzyme-powered stain and odor eliminator has Amazon reviewers raving “this stuff is freaking AMAZING,” claiming it “kills, completely eliminates” pet-pee smells. So you can dispel those rumors you’re a hoarder and have your friends over for dinner already.

PetSafe Drinkwell Multi-Tier Dog and Cat Water Fountain, $24.99 on Amazon Prime

There’s a reason your pet loves drinking out of the toilet. Because the water changes every time it’s flushed, it’s often cooler and fresher than what’s been sitting in their bowl all day. Fortunately, you can get the same effect without the “ew” factor for just $24.99. This fountain runs water through a charcoal filter and 12V pump for maximum freshness. Amazon reviewers rave about the quiet motor and easy-to-clean parts; others simply claim their pets love it.

XFasten Double-Sided Carpet Tape, $15.97 on Amazon Prime

While not marketed as a pet product, this stuff is pure magic if your cat thinks the couch is her personal scratching post. Simply apply double-sided tape in her favorite scratching spots—cats hate the sticky sensation against their claws, and will quickly slink off in disgust.

GoPets Premium Cat Scratcher, $17.00 on Amazon Prime

Since scratching is a natural behavior for cats, you’ll need to offer Miss Mittens an alternative to your precious divan. This inexpensive option has a reversible corrugated cardboard top to double its lifespan, plus cute hidey-holes for additional cat toys. Once your fur-baby’s made mincemeat of it, you can toss the whole thing in the recycling bin, making it one of the most eco-friendly options on the market.

Bone Dry Pet Storage Organizer, $53.62 on Amazon

Tennis balls under the dining table. Leashes tangled in the foyer. Bones, toys, and pup-sized outfits scattered everywhere. Corral it all quick in this bone-shaped pet storage organizer, then sit back and groan when visitors say your house looks “doggone great!”
