Hawaii Gov: Gay Marriage Soon

ALOHA

Hundreds rally both in support and against in Honolulu.

Wedding planners for 2014 need some time to get started, Hawaii—so get yourselves into gear here. Hawaiian Gov. Neil Abercrombie said Monday that he expects gay marriage to pass in his state “within a week or so” as hundreds rallied at the state capital in Honolulu both in support and against the bill. Hawaii, the first state to open the debate on same-sex marriage in 1993, has called a special session of the legislature to debate the same-sex marriage bill. On Monday, the legislature heard emotional testimony from a gay Vietnam veteran, the daughter of a transgendered parent, and opponents who asked for ballot question on the issue. If the bill passes, gay couples will be able to get married in Hawaii as soon as November 18.
