Does Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie really think he can quiet the "birther" movement? The newly elected Democrat, who was friends with President Obama’s parents back in the 1960s, said Tuesday he wants to find ways to prove the president was in fact born in Hawaii. Despite the president’s insistence—and a certificate of live birth that he has made public—there are still many “birthers” who believe Obama was born elsewhere—perhaps in Kenya, his father’s native country. "What bothers me is that some people who should know better are trying to use this for political reasons," Abercrombie told the Los Angeles Times last week. The Department of Health received 27 requests for the president’s birth information this month as of last Thursday, but the state has privacy laws that do not allow anyone to see birth information unless it is relevant to them.
