Rep. Mark Takai (D-HI) passed away on Wednesday at age 49, his office said. Takai was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last October. He was elected to the House in 2014 and began serving his first term early last year. Prior to his tenure in Congress, Takai served as a state representative in Hawaii for 20 years. Earlier this year, he announced he was not running for re-election after learning that his cancer had spread.
