Singer-songwriter Dallas Green, who records his solo work under the moniker City and Colour (see what he did there?) first made a name for himself as the singer and guitarist for post-hardcore group Alexisonfire. As his notoriety grew, Green began releasing the folky tunes people have come to know him for via the Internet, finally compiling them into an album in 2005. Since then, he has put out four studio records, all of which have been certified platinum in his native Canada.
His record, Bring Me Your Love, saw two tracks, “The Girl” and “Sleeping Sickness,” gain radio airplay in the United States, culminating in headlining tours, international recognition, and mainstream audiences who rallied to his somber-yet-not-sad lyrics and sound. On October 9, City and Colour is releasing If I Should Go Before You, from which this track, “Wasted Love,” is drawn.
“‘Wasted Love’ is one of two songs that I wrote and demoed without the band following pre-production,” Green told The Daily Beast. “The guys were literally learning it on the spot while we were tracking in the studio. I can hear that spontaneous energy in the finished product.”
