U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, accused of killing 16 villagers in Afghanistan in March, will appear before a military hearing on Monday to determine whether he will stand for a court martial. Bales faces as many as 16 counts of premeditated murder and six counts of attempted murder after allegedly sneaking away from his base at night and killing Afghan civilians in an alcohol-fueled rampage. The hearing will be held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
