In a statement Friday, Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump’s acknowledgement that President Barack Obama was born in the country a “sickening display.” Trump, who led the birther crusade early in Obama’s presidency, admitted for the first time that he believes the president was born in the U.S. “After five years of pushing a racist conspiracy theory into the mainstream, it was appalling to watch Trump appoint himself the judge of whether the president of the United States is American,” the Democratic presidential nominee said. “This sickening display shows more than ever why Donald Trump is totally unfit to be president.”
