Box office rankings for Labor Day weekend remained almost unchanged from last weekend, as Hollywood continues its losing streak in North American theaters. With no highly anticipated new releases debuting this weekend, the overall box office revenue of all films combined was an estimated $95.5 million—the lowest in nearly two decades. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson’s action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard retained its top spot in theaters for the third weekend in a row, with $12.9 million in ticket sales through Monday. The horror flick Annabelle: Creation claimed second place in its fourth weekend in theaters, with an estimated $7.3 million. Weinstein Co.’s Wind River, a thriller about a murder on a Native American reservation, came in third with $5.9 million in ticket sales through Sunday. Analysts hope new releases slated to debut next weekend, including the greatly hyped remake of Steven King’s It, will make up for the box office’s dismal summer.
