Hollywood had a good summer moneywise, thanks to the Harry Potter and Transformers franchises. The movie industry posted record highs in domestic revenues of $4.4 billion (compared with $4.2 billion for the summer of 2010) and overseas revenues of $8.6 billion (up dramatically from $5.8 billion last year). For the weekend box office, The Help continued to hold the top spot with $19 million over the Labor Day break, inspiring a loyalty and staying power reminiscent of The Blind Side. The new thriller The Debt, with Helen Mirren, pulled in $12.6 million for second place.
