The chairmen of the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees announced on Tuesday that they are encouraging Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate alleged abuses in the use of FISA requests to target Trump campaign aide Carter Page. “This is not about either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. This is about how the world’s most important law enforcement organization handled one of the most important investigations that it’s been charged with,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said on Tuesday. This new effort by Goodlatte and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) builds off allegations that were made in a Republican-authored memo that claimed the Justice Department withheld information from a FISA court when it was attempting to surveil Page.
