No one really won today in the House, which voted down a $500 billion, five-year farm bill that would have sharply cut food stamps, streamlined conservation programs, expanded crop insurance, and cut subsidy payments. Republicans blamed Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for failing to deliver promised Democratic votes, while the other side of the aisle blamed the GOP for not bringing enough support from the 60 party members who were opposed. The House may now vote on the Senate's similar bill or try for another extension.
