A massive World War II–era bomb was successfully defused in the German city of Koblenz. Earlier, authorities partially evacuated the city—about half of the 107,000 residents living within a 1.2-mile radius of the bomb had to leave their homes. The 1.8-ton bomb, dropped by the British more than 65 years ago, was discovered last month after a drought exposed it in the Rhine River.
