Hundreds marched indowntown Los Angeles on Saturday to protest the Monsanto Co., which makesgenetically modified seeds, one of several protests across the country. Thesocial-media organized protest was part of the “March Against Monsanto”movement, which had participants from 436 cities in 52 countries across theworld, organizers said. Monsanto, a multinational firm based in St. Louis, toldthe Associated Press that it stands by its seeds, despite the growing body ofcritics against genetically modified crops. On Thursday, the U.S. Senateoverwhelmingly rejected a 2013 farm bill that would require labeling ofgenetically modified foods.
