A major wildfire approaching the mountains of Southern California forced authorities Wednesday to issue evacuation orders for hundreds of homes in the area. The fire broke out Monday as temperatures soared into triple digits, and has already destroyed three houses and three mobile homes. Around 300 to 400 homes in the Idyllwild and Fern Valley communities were told to evacuate, and residents have been allowed to gather essential items before leaving the area. More than 2,200 firefighters and 25 aircraft are working to battle the blaze.
