Hurricane Odile swept through Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, destroying or damaging structures ranging from ramshackle homes to high-end hotels, and leaving some neighborhoods disaster zones. Some 30,000 tourists were being housed in temporary quarters, and Los Cabos International Airport was closed Monday night. No deaths or serious injuries were reported, but emergency officials said 135 people were treated for minor injuries. Odile made landfall as a powerful Category 3 hurricane. It has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but forecasters said it was likely to still bring torrential rain and flooding to the area. That rain could prove helpful to the region, which has been stricken by drought.
