In an interview with Diane Sawyer, astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, said that his wife had expressed fear many times about being shot at one of her public events. Giffords had expressed the fear about 10 times, Kelly said. He also described the tragic 20 minutes in which he thought his wife had been assassinated, as many media outlets originally reported on the day of the shooting. "It was a terrible mistake," Kelly said of the error. "As bad as it was that she had died, it's equally exciting that she hadn't." Asked about her recovery, Kelly said he is positive that she has recognized him, but isn’t sure whether she’ll ever return to her former self.
