A weapon designed by the U.S. military to destroy targets anywhere on earth within one hour exploded during a test flight early Monday. The weapon was built as part of the Army’s Conventional Prompt Global Strike program, and was being tested at a facility in Alaska when it failed during takeoff. It is supposed to go hypersonic, which is more than five times the speed of sound.
