The writer behind the 2006 cult sci-fi comedy Idiocracy took a jab at the 2016 presidential election Wednesday when he bemoaned the fact that his satire about a dumber America appeared to have become reality. “I never expected #idiocracy to become a documentary,” Etan Cohen tweeted. Cohen, along with Beavis & Butt-Head creator Mike Judge, created the time-travel comedy about a man who wakes up in a future America to discover that the entire country—including government officials—are idiots. “I thought the worst thing that would come true was everyone wearing Crocs,” Cohen responded to one of his followers.
