While the eastern U.S. has been struggling with a cold and snowy winter, Alaska’s snowfall has been so meager that its Alaskan Iditarod dogsled are has been moved 289 miles north. This is only the second time in the historic race’s 43 year history that such a measure has been necessary. The 1000-mile race’s starting point has been moved from Willow to Fairbanks. In Anchorage, 350 trucks were used to bring in snow as the city has only received about a third of its annual snowfall.
