A teenager told the Associated Press he was abused and isolated at an immigrant detention center in Virginia. The 18-year-old from Honduras, who spoke anonymously for fear of retaliation, said guards at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center starved and kicked him and placed him in solitary confinement without cause. His statements resemble allegations in a lawsuit filed against the facility in which children as young as 14 said they were beaten while handcuffed, locked up in solitary confinement, and left naked in concrete cells. Shenandoah’s director denied the suit’s claims and did not respond to the AP’s request for comment Wednesday.
