Over the past six years, at least 786 children overseen by child protective services workers in the U.S. have died of abuse or neglect. According to the Associated Press, many of them were beaten, starved, or left alone to drown while agencies responsible for them likely knew they were in danger. In addition, there were 230 open-case child deaths from that period involving children under the government’s protection.
