Why let facts get in the way of an effective policy? Indiana lawmakers won’t. The state house is considering a bill that creates new restrictions on abortions, including banning abortions after 20 weeks and requiring would-be patients to see an ultrasound of their babies. But the most controversial bit is the supposed connection between abortion and breast cancer, which doctors would be required to mention to patients. The only problem? A range of public-health organizations, including the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute, say there’s no proven connection. The clause’s backers say more information is always better.
