Awards season is officially under way and thus far, Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone is on top. The Sundance favorite cleaned up in this year’s nominations for the Independent Spirit Awards, announced Tuesday morning. The backwoods noir is in the running for seven awards, including Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. But the film has stiff competition: Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right earned five nominations, Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming Black Swan, and John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole are each up for four awards, and Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg and Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours will compete with Winter’s Bone for Best Feature. The winners will be revealed Feb. 26 when comedian Joel McHale hosts the seaside ceremony in Santa Monica.
