India Stampede Kills 27 in Holy Festival

Officials said Tuesday at least 27 Hindu pilgrims were killed during a stampede near a holy river in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The pilgrims had convened on the banks of the Goadvari river to kick off the Maha Pushkaralu festival. Nearly 24 million people are expected to participate in the 12-day festival, which includes a taking dip in the river to absolve them of their sins.
