An ex-con politician was shot dead on live television—by gunmen pretending to be journalists—while he was in police custody in India. Atiq Ahmed, a former mobster who once served as a member of parliament, and his brother Ashraf were handcuffed and surrounded by police when they were ambushed on Saturday night, the BBC reports. Now police in Prayagraj are under fire for failing to protect Ahmed, whose 19-year-old son was killed by cops earlier in the week.
