Take note, warring statehouses: Indiana Democrats will make their return to the capital Monday after fleeing a budget vote five weeks ago. Dems said they would return after Republicans compromised on several legislative hang-ups—although the only bill killed was the “right to work” proposal that would have prohibited union representation fees from being a condition of employment. In one of the longest legislative walkouts in history, Democrats have been hiding out in Urbana, Illinois since February 22, incurring fines from Republican lawmakers of up to $350 a day. Although Democrats took many of the Republicans’ concessions as victories, House Speaker Brian Bosma said he did not consider any of the bills’ changes significant.
