Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed a bill Thursday that bans abortions performed because of fetal genetic abnormalities, including Down syndrome. This new law goes into effect in July and would also preclude abortions because of a fetus’s race, sex, or ancestry. North Dakota enacted a similar law in 2013.
