The second installment of the Divergent Series, Insurgent, showed the series has legs as it pulled in $54 million in its opening weekend, just shy of the $54.6 million pulled in by the first installment’s opening. The film faced tough headwinds, as it earned a 32% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, the weekend’s other big debut, Sean Penn’s The Gunman, bombed, bringing in just $5 million. Coming in second was Cinderella with $34.5 million. Liam Neeson’s Run All Night and Colin Firth’s Kingsman rounded out the top five with $5.1 million and $4.6 million, respectively.
