This was such a horrific summer and fall for Northern Nevada, starting with the Amtrak crash, then the Air Races Accident, then the shooting at the Nugget during Street Vibrations, then this shooting at the IHOP in Carson City, the death of a local sportscaster in a hit and run DUI, and then a wildfire in November. It was a terrible six months.

Athens, Georgia: A man shot and killed his wife and two men at a local theater group picnic. The gunman returned to his car after the shooting where his children were waiting, dropped them off at a neighbor's, and then fled to an uninhabited area where he killed himself.
A man shot his estranged wife, her(purported)lover,and a bystander outside of a community theater in which they were both active members. Their children were in his car at the time. He then fled, dropping the unharmed children with neighbors, and hid out in the woods in the neighboring town of Bogart, GA. Cadaver dogs found him a couple of weeks later in a self-dug, shallow grave covered by brush and a dryer door, with a self inflicted gunshot would in his head. He had evidently intended to never be found.
Huntsville, Alabama: A professor opened fire 50 minutes into a Biological Sciences Department faculty meeting at the University of Alabama, killing three colleagues and wounding three others. The shooter had a history of violence: she shot and killed her brother in 1986, was possibly involved in an attempted mail bombing, and was convicted of disorderly conduct, and assault and battery in an incident in 2002.

Auburn, Alabama: A 22-year-old man opened fire at University Heights apartments off West Longleaf Drive. The shooting left three men dead, including two former Auburn University football players, and three others wounded.
