CROSSOVER

Introducing ‘Twilight’ Moms

If you thought Twilight was a tween thing, think again. Adults now outnumber teens as fans of Stephenie Meyer's bestselling series. Twilight Moms, an online fanclub dedicated to the Twilight books, now boasts 28,000 members. “Twilight has pretty much consumed my whole life,” its founder, a 35-year-old mother of two, said. And it’s not just the vampire saga that’s appealing to grown-ups: the trend has extended to series like Harry Potter and Gossip Girl. And publishers are marketing accordingly. According to David Levithan, Editorial Director at Scholastic, “A book cannot become an all-out phenomenon without an adult buy-in, purely on a numbers game. If you crossover to adults, you just explode.”
