Ted Cruz won a coveted endorsement Thursday from Iowa’s most influential Christian activist, effectively locking up the evangelical vote in the nation’s first caucus state. Family Leader President Bob Vander Plaats told The Des Moines Register that Cruz is “the most consistent and principled conservative who has the ability to not only win Iowa but I believe to win the nomination.” Vander Plaats explained why he snubbed other top rivals, reserving his harshest criticism for Marco Rubio’s immigration-reform proposals.
