Iran Demands Prisoner Swap

Negotiations

For three American hikers branded as spies.

Iran may have allowed the moms of three American hikers, detained since last July, visit with their kids last week, but it seems the good will is stopping there—for the time being. Iranian Intelligence Minister Heyder Moslehi called the visit a “humanitarian gesture,” and is now demanding a prisoner swap in return for their release. The American hikers—Shane Bauer, 27, Sarah Shourd, 31, and Josh Fattal, 27—face espionage charges in Iran, despite Washington’s claims that they’re innocent and should be set free. "We are waiting for the United States to make a humanitarian gesture as well, before there can be any talk of an exchange," said Moslehi. "As for the three Americans, the fact that this is a case of espionage is known."
