Iran Frees Imprisoned Blogger

AT LAST

Hossein Derakhshan was imprisoned for six years.

Hossein Derakhshan, an Iranian blogger convicted of blasphemy, obscenity, and seditious propaganda, has been freed from prison after six years, according to posts by Derakhshan on social media. Derakhshan is considered a pioneer in introducing Iran to blogging and has even earned the nickname Iran’s “blogfather.” In a post on his Google Plus page, Derakhshan said his pardon was granted just as he was returning to prison after a furlough. “I was released after 6 years,” he wrote. “Thank you, God. Thank you, Ayatollah Khamenei. Thank you to those who supported and prayed for me in those difficult days.”
