This doesn’t help Iran’s résumé. The U.S. is investigating whether Iran gave Libya artillery shells used for chemical weapons. The former Libyan rebels recently found the shells, filled with mustard gas, when raiding sites in the nation. While it’s not known for certain where the shells came from, a senior U.S. official said that they suspect Iran. Iranian officials have blasted the report as U.S. propaganda. In 2004 Muammar Gaddafi promised to the international community that Libya would destroy all its chemical weapons.
